“BRINGING CLARITY TO COMPLEX PROBLEMS THROUGH TECHNOLOGY AND COLLABORATION”
Based in our Edinburgh office, Tariq Khan is an Audit Assistant Manager who combines strong technical expertise with a passion for innovation. Working across a diverse portfolio of large corporates and multinational organisations, Tariq plays a key role in delivering high-quality audits while helping to shape how technology is embedded within the audit process.
No two weeks look the same for Tariq, and that’s exactly what drives him. From leading audit engagements and reviewing team outputs to diving into complex, high-judgement areas such as valuations and going concern assessments, he balances oversight with hands-on delivery. Alongside client work, Tariq also leads the firm’s audit automation and AI programme, coordinating adoption across offices, developing guidance, and supporting teams to embrace new ways of working.
“For me, candour is essential when building relationships with clients. I try to break down the traditional barriers so conversations are open, honest and even lighthearted from the outset. When clients feel comfortable sharing their challenges, it allows us to work together towards a common goal rather than feeling like the audit is something being done to them.”
“One engagement that stands out involved a complex group structure with multiple entities. One key contact had a reputation for being difficult to engage. Instead of accepting that, I invested time in building a genuine relationship and understanding her systems. Once that trust was there, everything changed. Communication improved, responses were quicker, and we delivered the audit in record time. Even after I rotated off, she reached out for my guidance to support others. That’s when you know you’ve made a difference.”
“What I find most satisfying is building real connections with clients. When you invest time in understanding people, not just their numbers, barriers start to come down. You move from a formal working relationship to something more collaborative. That’s when the best outcomes happen.”
“On a recent engagement, a client was struggling with a complicated branch consolidation process. It was time-consuming and prone to errors. I developed a more streamlined method by bringing together multiple data sources and applying detailed analysis. It wasn’t easy at first. There were lots of calls and adjustments. But we got there. Now the client can complete the process in days instead of weeks. It made a lasting difference.”
“One of the greatest compliments I’ve received came from a client who had a poor experience with their previous auditor. They were anxious from the start. I focused on being visible, responsive and proactive. By the end of the audit, the whole team was relaxed. The controller told me it felt like I was ten people and said there was no limit to what I could achieve. That stuck with me.”
“One of the biggest challenges in audit today is the complexity of businesses and the volume of data. My approach is to combine strong technical fundamentals with a curiosity for new technology. It’s about using the right tools to focus on what really matters. Understanding the business. Identifying risk. Delivering meaningful insight.”
“I bring strong communication, curiosity and a willingness to take ownership. I enjoy building relationships and creating an environment where people feel comfortable being open. I also have a real interest in how technology is changing our profession. I see myself as a bridge between traditional audit and what comes next.”
“I’m excited about how AI and data analytics will shape the future of audit. There’s a real opportunity to move beyond traditional approaches and deliver deeper insights. I want to keep developing my skills in this space and help shape how audit evolves. Combining strong fundamentals with new technology to deliver better outcomes for clients.”
